Giuseppe "Clutch Hand" Morello (1867–1930) was a notorious Mafia figure, born in Corleone, Sicily. He founded the Morello Gang, later known as the Genovese Family. After moving to the U.S. in 1892 to escape a counterfeiting charge in Italy, Morello established the 107th Street Mob, which became the Morello Family. Known for brutal methods, the Morello Family became infamous for the "barrel murders," where they killed rivals, stuffed them into barrels, and left them on street corners. Their criminal activities included extortion, loan sharking, and counterfeiting, among others. Morello's influence grew, and by 1905, he led the largest Sicilian family in New York. After being imprisoned in 1910 and released in 1922, he served as consigliere to Joe Masseria during the Prohibition era. Morello's life ended during the Castellammarese War, a bloody Mafia conflict in the late 1920s and early 1930s.
