Hymie Weiss 2024 Historic Autographs Mob 2 Death Card 134A
This Hymie Weiss Death Cardtrading card is from the "2023 Historic Autographs Mob 2" series, featuring the "Death of Hymie Weiss," card number 134A.
Hymie Weiss was a key figure in the North Side Gang. On October 11, 1926, at four o'clock in the afternoon, Weiss and his associates, including bodyguard Sam Pellar, gangster Paddy Murray, attorney William W. O'Brien, and investigator Benjamin Jacobs, were on their way to Schofield’s Flowers, the gang’s headquarters. They parked their cars, unaware that two of Al Capone's best hitmen, Jack McGurn and Sam Hunt, were waiting in a nearby rooming house. As Weiss and his men crossed the street towards the flower shop, McGurn opened fire with a Tommy gun, and Hunt used a shotgun. McGurn's first burst fatally wounded Weiss and Murray, while O'Brien was hit four times and staggered into a nearby stairwell. Pellar and Jacobs were also wounded. In the chaos, Pellar fired his .38, unintentionally hitting Weiss, who collapsed on the sidewalk. Despite their injuries, Pellar and Jacobs staggered back to safety, followed by bullets the entire way. Frank Nitti is credited with masterminding the assassination. Weiss was buried in Mount Carmel Cemetery just west of Chicago, near his friend Dean O’Banion and his rival Al Capone. Hymie Weiss was 28 years old at the time of his death.
