Mickey J. Spillane 2023 Historic Autographs The Mob 2 Aurora Blue /16
Mickey J. Spillane Aurora Blue
This trading card is from the 2023 "The Mob 2" collection by Historic Autographs. It features Mickey J. Spillane, known as the "Gentleman Gangster," who was an Irish-American mobster that controlled New York City's Hell's Kitchen during the 1960s and 70s. Despite the dominance of the Italian mob in New York, Spillane maintained control over his territory. His decline began with the construction of the Javits Convention Center in the late 1970s, located in Chelsea near Hell's Kitchen. Spillane's refusal to allow the Italian mob into the project led to a violent power struggle. This tension culminated in the assassination of three of his chief lieutenants, initiating the Irish-Italian mob wars. Spillane eventually moved to Queens for his family's safety but was ultimately shot and killed outside his apartment in May 1977, possibly by the infamous hitman Roy DeMeo. Spillane's death marked the decline of the Irish mob's influence in New York City.
